Overnight Danish

These were simple, delicious and a nice change from the normal breakfast routine.  The family loved them!!

Overnight Danish
adapted from The Taste of Home
Makes about 24 rolls
2 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm milk
3 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup warm half and half or cream
3 egg yolks, lightly beaten
1 can fruit filling

Icing:
1 Tablespoon butter, melted
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash of salt
4-5 Tablespoons half and half or milk

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk.  In a large bowl or food processor combine, flour sugar and salt.  Cut in the butter until mixture is crumbly.  Add the yeast mixture, cream and egg yolks.  Mix until it forms a soft dough. (dough will be sticky).  Cover and refrigerated overnight.
**Don't worry it does not raise very much at all, but still works great.
In the morning. Knead dough and divide in half.
Roll out each portion into about a 12 x 5 inch rectangle.  To make this easier lay a piece of plastic wrap underneath the dough.
Roll the dough from the top long side in jelly roll style.
Slice the dough into about 1 inch pieces.  The easiest way to do this is with waxed dental floss.
You can see  picture directions here (scroll down just a bit.)
Place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.
Using the end of a wooden or plastic spoon, make 1/2 inch deep indentations in the center of each roll.
Fill each indentation with about 1 Tablespoon pie or cream cheese filling.
Cream Cheese Filling
1 8oz. package cream cheese
1 egg
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix ingredients together until well blended.
(After filling the rolls I still had some leftover.)
Bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.
Make icing.  Combine butter and sugar together.  Add vanilla, salt and enough milk to make it the desired consistency.  (I used 4 Tablespoons milk.)
Drizzle overtop of the danish.  I put them back on a cooled pan, just for easy clean up.
Serve and enjoy! Place leftovers in an airtight container. For breakfast the next day my daughters spread a little butter on the top and heated them for about 15 seconds.
*I used cream cheese filling because the pie filling I opened tasted funny.  The cream cheese was good, but a fruit filling would taste even better.
